Following a scent for forty minutes

He came when he heard the coriander bag rustle, and he knew his name, mostly when food was involved.

Any tricks or words they knew?

-----

Being picked up. He tolerated it for exactly four seconds and then made his feelings known.

Was there anything they really disliked?

-----

Breakfast greens, morning zoomies, an extremely long nap, evening free roam, and a dedicated hour of destroying cardboard.

Did you have a little ritual together?

-----

He ran to the front of his pen and thumped once, which I eventually understood was a greeting and not a complaint.

How did they greet you when you came home?

-----

Flat out on his side under the coffee table, so convincingly that I checked on him constantly for the first year.

Where did they love to sleep or curl up?

-----

He binkied. He would leap straight up, twist mid-air, and land as though nothing had happened, usually at two in the morning.

What were their funny habits or quirks?

-----

He was surrendered to a shelter at eighteen months for 'excessive barking'. The volunteer warned me three times. I took him anyway.
