Sit, stay, heel, spin, and 'let's go', which turned him instantly into a coiled spring.

Any tricks or words they knew?

-----

Being left behind on a run, thunderstorms, and the specific indignity of a raincoat.

Was there anything they really disliked?

-----

A five-mile run at dawn, breakfast, a morning of patrolling the yard, an afternoon nap in the sun, and an evening walk past the firehouse he loved.

Did you have a little ritual together?

-----

He grabbed a toy, any toy, and pranced in a tight circle, far too full of feeling to stand still.

How did they greet you when you came home?

-----

Flat on the cool tile by the back door in summer, and pressed against the radiator in winter, spots in every direction.

Where did they love to sleep or curl up?

-----

He had one spot shaped exactly like a heart on his left flank, and he turned to show it to anyone who crouched down, as though he knew.

What were their funny habits or quirks?

-----

He was returned twice for being 'too much energy' before he was even a year old. The rescue told me honestly that he needed a runner, not a family. I ran every morning. We found each other.
